Claudia Mirza Named Latina Style Entrepreneur of the Year

Claudia Mirza was selected as the LATINA Style Entrepreneur of the Year for the Dallas/Fort Worth area for her success, business achievements and contributions to the community. Mirza competed with dozens of other very successful Latina entrepreneurs for this highly coveted award.

Hundreds of business professionals gathered at the Hyatt Regency Dallas Hotel on April 17th for LATINA Style's all-day business program. In addition to the award, Mirza was one of only three women selected to participate on the business event's Latina Entrepreneur's Spotlight: Lesson's Learned panel, which featured successful Latina entrepreneurs with businesses at different stages of maturity. They discussed lessons learned, insights gained, as well as challenges encountered and advice for overcoming them.

Mirza launched Akorbi in 2003. Under her leadership, vision and tenacity, it evolved from a home-based business to a multi-million dollar company with 670 employees. She led Akorbi's evolution from a language translation company to a comprehensive provider of global language, technology and staffing services. Some of the most prestigious organizations in the world, including the U.S. Department of Defense, the U.S. Department of Education, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, leading health insurance companies, and the largest provider of Internet services worldwide, are among Akorbi's clients.

Over the years, Mirza's success and commitment to her community have been recognized with numerous honors and awards, including: the Dallas Business Journal's "Women in Business" award, "Minority/Women Business Enterprise" award from The Greater Dallas Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, "Women of Color Achievement" award from The 100 Black Men of Greater Dallas/Fort Worth, Association of Latin Professionals in Accounting and Finance's "Latina Achievement" Award, "Woman-Owned Business Enterprise of the Year" by the North Texas Regional Certification Agency, and the Fort Worth Mayor's "Entrepreneur Award."
